My name is Catrina Beeny and I’m a master’s student at Western Michigan University studying English. This website is to discuss how to include ethnic futurism for a collegiate course on children’s literature. The specific course I’m discussing is at WMU and is Lit for the Young Child. Each page will provide a different aspect of this project including ethnic futurism, the course discussed, texts used, assignment ideas, and resources. Please browse around and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments through the contact me page!

We love her Afrofuturistic style, a new style that became popular around the release of movie Black Panther. “Being originally from Africa, I look up to African art and afrofuturistic art styles. I love patterns, colors and designs that represent my roots… love the fact that each person can see different things in one piece of art and relate to it. Some artists I look up to are: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Frida Kahlo, Gustav Klimt, and a New York based artist Kehinde Wiley. I love the energy behind their work, it truly inspires me.” “Each piece is a part of me that I share”, says Kaylan.
